Elliptic Functions and their Properties
Develops the theory of doubly-periodic meromorphic functions from first principles. Beginning with compactness of the torus ℂ/Λ, we derive Liouville's theorems, construct the Weierstrass ℘-function and its differential equation, prove the representation theorem E(Λ) = ℂ(℘, ℘'), introduce the j-invariant and the modular group, and close with the Jacobi sn/cn/dn family and three worked applications: the exact large-amplitude pendulum, KdV cnoidal waves, and the lemniscatic arc length that started it all.
